This visit, part of a segment for "CBS Mornings," coincided with her successful year, including a Grammy nomination for her Broadway musical, "Hell's Kitchen".
A Nostalgic Return and Inspiring Reunion
Keys, a former valedictorian, reminisced about her time at the school, sharing anecdotes about her playful rebelliousness and challenging teachers. She also reflected on her early musical breakthroughs, including signing her first record deal and the release of her debut album at 20, which garnered five Grammys including "Song of the Year" for her iconic hit, "Fallin'".
Her visit also included a heartfelt reunion with her former music teacher, Linda Aziza Miller, who played a pivotal role in shaping her musical abilities. Miller now serves as the orchestra pianist for "Hell's Kitchen" at the Shubert Theatre, a beautiful full-circle moment.
An Impromptu Performance and Words of Wisdom
The highlight of the visit was an impromptu performance of "This Girl Is on Fire" with a theater class. Keys shared valuable advice with the students, urging them to embrace their individuality and never forget that uniqueness is a strength.
This heartwarming visit showcases Keys' commitment to giving back to her community and inspiring the next generation of artists.
