NYC Hero Fatally Stabbed While Protecting Teenager

A tragic incident unfolded on the Upper West Side of Manhattan when 46-year-old Alfred Soto was fatally stabbed while intervening in a dispute involving a 19-year-old neighbor's daughter.

The Incident

Police responded to a call around 10 a.m. on Friday at a building on West 96th Street near Columbus Avenue. They found Soto suffering from multiple stab wounds to the chest and stomach. Despite being rushed to a hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.

A Selfless Act

A cousin, Pasram John Somwar, revealed that Soto, who lived on the 11th floor, had rushed to the sixth floor to help after a resident called him for assistance. Apparently, five men were attempting to take a dog from the 19-year-old, leading to an altercation with Soto. Soto was then attacked and fatally stabbed.

Soto's sister shared the family's immense grief, noting that they were still mourning the recent loss of their mother to cancer. She lauded Soto's heroic actions, stating he sacrificed his life to protect the young woman. "He was a hero," his cousin emphasized. The 19-year-old daughter was unharmed in the incident.
