Brooklyn Tragedy: Mother and Two Children Killed in Car Crash
A horrific car accident in Brooklyn claimed the lives of a mother and her two young daughters on Saturday. The incident occurred on Ocean Parkway near Quentin Road in Midwood just after 1 p.m. A total of 10 people, including six children, were injured and taken to various hospitals.
The Accident
Police say a 32-year-old woman, Mariam Yarimi, driving an Audi with a suspended license, rear-ended a Toyota Camry. The impact sent the Audi into a group of pedestrians in a crosswalk, resulting in the tragic loss of the mother and her two daughters (ages six and eight). A four-year-old boy, also part of the group, remains hospitalized in critical condition.
The driver of the Audi, who suffered only stable injuries, was extricated from the vehicle, which had overturned. The driver of the Camry and other children sustained minor injuries.
Community Response and Investigation
Mayor Adams expressed deep concern and sorrow, describing the event as "a tragic, tragic accident." The community is in mourning, and residents highlight speeding as a persistent problem on Ocean Parkway. Authorities are investigating whether the Audi driver ran a red light or was speeding, and conducted a preliminary breath test for intoxication.
