Two individuals were slashed in seemingly random, unprovoked attacks.
The first attack occurred around 10:15 p.m. on a northbound 4/5/6 train platform. 28-year-old Jason Sargeant allegedly got into an argument with a 42-year-old man, slashing him in the wrist before fleeing.
Sargeant then proceeded to the next level of the station, where he slashed a 26-year-old woman in the neck near a turnstile.
However, his escape was short-lived. Witnesses quickly identified Sargeant to police, leading to his arrest on an escalator. A knife was recovered from his jacket.
Both victims were transported to the hospital and are reported to be in stable condition. Sargeant faces numerous charges, including assault, reckless endangerment, menacing, and criminal possession of a weapon. He has a history of prior arrests.
This incident highlights ongoing concerns about safety within the city's subway system. The seemingly random nature of the attacks has added to the public's alarm.
