A Day Trip to Disney World: Worth It?
Disney World is a magical place, but it's not cheap. Tickets alone can cost hundreds of dollars, and that's just for one day. With the added cost of flights and hotels, a multi-day trip can easily reach $10,000 for a family of four.
So, is flying to Orlando for just one day a cheaper option? I decided to find out.
The Itinerary: A whirlwind of rides and transportation
I flew Spirit Airlines from NYC to Orlando, arriving at 8:21 a.m. — 36 minutes early! My first stop was Epcot, where I rode Remy's Ratatouille Adventure, a fan favorite, and explored the World Showcase Pavilions.
Next, I headed to Magic Kingdom via the iconic Monorail. I rode TRON Lightcycle Run, took pictures in front of Cinderella's Castle, and even tried to get on Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind using the Virtual Queue, but it wasn't feasible with my schedule.
My last stop was Hollywood Studios, where I used Lightning Lane to skip lines for Tower of Terror, Toy Story Mania!, and Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway.
The Cost Breakdown: Cheaper than you might think
My total trip cost was $747, including airfare, park hopper ticket, Lightning Lane passes, and transportation. A three-day ticket alone would have cost around $493, so this day trip definitely saved me money.
Tips for Making the Most of Your Disney Day Trip:
- Go during the shoulder season (October-February): The summer heat can be brutal.
- Don't try to fit three parks in one day: Two is a more manageable number.
- Use Lightning Lane strategically: Book your passes as early as possible.
- Bring a portable charger and handheld fan: You'll be using your phone a lot, and Florida is hot!
The Verdict: A Magical Day Trip, But Not for Everyone
It was an exhausting day, but it was also incredibly fun. I got to experience all the magic of Disney World without having to take more than a day off work. If you're looking to save money on a Disney vacation, I would definitely recommend a day trip. But be prepared to be on the go all day, and don't forget your sunscreen!
