Jets Interview Former Titans Coach Mike Vrabel
The New York Jets are interviewing former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel for their head coaching position. A source confirmed the interview took place at the Jets' facility on Friday.
Vrabel, 49, is considered a highly sought-after candidate. His availability stems from the recent expiration of his consulting contract with the Cleveland Browns. This makes him a prime candidate for this year's hiring cycle.
The Jets have already interviewed Ron Rivera, former coach of the Carolina Panthers and Washington Commanders. Rex Ryan, former coach of the Jets and Buffalo Bills, also expressed interest in the position.
The interview process comes after the Jets fired Robert Saleh in October after a 20-36 record over three-plus seasons. The team's current interim coach is Jeff Ulbrich.
Vrabel's tenure with the Titans spanned six seasons, resulting in a 54-45 record and three postseason appearances. However, his performance declined in his last two seasons, leading to his dismissal in January 2024.
The Jets are also searching for a new general manager, having already interviewed several candidates, including former Atlanta Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff, and former Titans GM Jon Robinson.
The team is using The 33rd Team to aid in their search, led by advisors such as former Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum and former Minnesota Vikings GM Rick Spielman.
The Jets' search for a new head coach and general manager is a significant development for the franchise as they look to turn around their disappointing season, which ended with a 4-12 record.
