NYC Blizzard Alert: Snow Possible This Week?

New York City's mild weather streak may end abruptly. An Alberta Clipper, a fast-moving weather system from Canada, is bringing cold temperatures and the possibility of snow. AccuWeather meteorologist Paul Pastelok warns that early December temperatures could be the coldest since 2019.

The National Weather Service describes an Alberta Clipper as a system bringing heavy wind, light snow, and low temperatures. While upstate areas like Buffalo and Syracuse could see several inches of snow, NYC's coastal location may experience a mix of rain and snow, mainly on Thursday.

Will NYC See Snow?

The city's coastline is on the cusp of rain or snow late Wednesday into Thursday. While an umbrella might be more useful than a shovel, AccuWeather predicts up to 25 inches of snow for NYC this winter.

The last significant snowfall was on January 15th, with 1.7 inches dusting Central Park – ending a 700-day dry spell. This Alberta Clipper could impact 16 states.

Meteorological Winter Begins

Meteorological winter, starting December 1st, is easier for statistical tracking than the astronomical winter (December 21st).

Upstate Snowfall

Upstate New York experienced a heavy snowfall, with 5 inches already reported by gametime at the Buffalo Bills game on Sunday.
