NYC Boating Tragedy: 3 Dead, 1 Missing
On Sunday afternoon, a tragic boating accident occurred in the Ambrose Channel between Brooklyn and Staten Island, resulting in three fatalities and one missing person. Two others sustained injuries.
The incident took place around noon, when the boat carrying six people capsized in the busy shipping lane. Five individuals were rescued from the icy waters by the NYPD and the US Coast Guard.
Sadly, three of those rescued were pronounced dead at the scene or shortly thereafter. The Coast Guard is actively searching for the sixth passenger and confirmed they deployed three rescue boats and a helicopter in the operation. The NYPD, FDNY, and New Jersey State Police are assisting in the search.
The remaining two passengers were taken to hospitals; one is listed in critical condition and the other in stable condition. The authorities have not yet released details regarding the boat itself or the identities of the victims.
The Coast Guard's ongoing search underscores the seriousness of the situation and the collaborative effort underway to locate the missing passenger. This tragic accident highlights the dangers of boating, particularly in cold water.
