NYC Boating Tragedy: Four Presumed Dead
A tragic boating accident off the coast of New York City has left four people dead and two others hospitalized. A 30-foot vessel sank 5 miles southeast of Breezy Point, Queens, on Sunday afternoon during a recreational fishing trip.
The U.S. Coast Guard launched a massive search operation, covering 842 square miles over 30 hours, using helicopters, planes, ships and small boats. Sadly, 52-year-old Vernon Glasford, of the Bronx, is presumed dead after the search was called off on Monday evening.
Three other individuals were found unresponsive and later pronounced dead. Two survivors were rescued and transported to the hospital, where they are reported to be in stable condition.
The Coast Guard expressed deep sympathy for the victims' families. The cold water temperature (approximately 38 degrees Fahrenheit) is believed to be a significant factor in this tragedy. The incident highlights the dangers of recreational boating, particularly in challenging weather conditions.
