NYC Ferry Evacuated After Fire Breaks Out

A New York City ferry caught fire on the Hudson River near Jersey City on August 29th, prompting the evacuation of around 37 passengers.

The fire broke out on the "Father Mychal Judge" ferry operated by New York Waterway around 4:40 p.m.

Passengers were safely transported to another vessel by first responders. Thankfully, there were no reported injuries.

The fire was extinguished quickly and the ferry returned to port.

One passenger, Cary Broder, described the chaotic scene, saying "I looked behind me, and there were orange flames shooting out of the back of the boat." He shared that he considered jumping into the river but ultimately felt relieved that everyone made it to safety.
