Miriam, a beloved Israeli restaurant in Park Slope, Brooklyn, was vandalized with antisemitic graffiti, including the phrases "Israel steals culture" and "Genocide cuisine." Mayor Eric Adams called the act a despicable act of antisemitism, expressing his heartbreak and assuring that the NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force is investigating.

The restaurant's owner, Rafi Hasid, chose to keep the graffiti visible, stating, "I want people to see that things like that happen." He opened the restaurant on Sunday despite the vandalism, showcasing a powerful message of resilience.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and Rep. Ritchie Torres visited the restaurant to show their support. Schumer stated, "Hate has no place in New York." Torres added, "A hate crime against the Jewish community is a hate crime against all of us."

This incident follows a similar attack on another Miriam location in Manhattan in 2022. The NYPD investigation continues, with no arrests made as of yet.

Miriam's Response

The restaurant shared on Instagram: "Miriam stands for inclusivity and unity... We will continue to be a safe place where everyone feels welcome. Join us in spreading love, not hate."

This act of vandalism highlights the ongoing issue of antisemitism in New York City and underscores the need for continued vigilance and community support.
