NYC Mayor Adams Facing Growing Calls for Resignation Amidst Investigations

The pressure is mounting on NYC Mayor Eric Adams to resign, as a string of scandals and investigations continue to rock his administration.

The most recent development was the sudden resignation of Adams' chief counsel, Lisa Zornberg. While her resignation letter offered no explanation, reports suggest she stepped down after Adams refused to fire key advisors, including Tim Pearson, who are currently under federal investigation.

This incident comes on the heels of other high-profile departures, including the resignation of the NYPD commissioner and raids on the homes of top aides.

The mayor's handling of these events has drawn criticism from a number of elected officials. Several socialist lawmakers have publicly called for Adams to step down, citing concerns about corruption and mismanagement.

State Senator Jabari Brisport was one of the first to call for Adams' resignation, stating simply, "Eric Adams should resign."

City Council Member Alexa Avilés has also expressed her disapproval, writing on X (formerly Twitter), "Eric Adams is unfit to lead our city and NYPD. NYC deserves so much better."

City Council Member Tiffany Cabán, a member of the Progressive Caucus, has been particularly critical of Adams, accusing him of corruption and mismanagement. "Eric Adams is unfit to govern. NY deserves better," she wrote on X.

State Senator Julia Salazar also added her voice to the chorus of calls for resignation, writing on X, "Several FBI investigations have done too much harm to the city. Time to step aside and allow for new leadership."

Assembly Member Emily Gallagher has been critical of Adams' leadership style, calling him "corny" and accusing him of surrounding himself with criminals. She also said that he lacks "real charisma" and called for his resignation.

Despite these calls for his resignation, Adams has shown no indication of stepping down. He has dismissed the criticism, stating that he was elected by the people and is committed to fulfilling his obligations. It remains to be seen how the ongoing investigations and calls for resignation will affect Adams' administration moving forward.
