A coalition of Upper West Side residents has condemned Josman's actions, calling them "overt hatred" toward the Jewish and Israeli communities. They point out that he hasn't removed other signage, suggesting a deliberate targeting of the hostage posters. The group demands his removal from his volunteer position and mandatory anti-discrimination training for all public servants.
High Number of Hate Crimes in the Area
The 24th Precinct reported the fifth-highest number of hate crimes in NYC last year, according to NYPD data. This context adds fuel to the criticism directed at Josman's actions. The Upper West Side also has one of the highest Jewish populations in the city.
Calls for Accountability
Brooke Goldstein, founder of the #EndJewHatred movement, also called for Josman's resignation, characterizing his actions as "despicable" and insensitive to the ongoing suffering of hostages still held by Hamas terrorists, including American citizen Edan Alexander. Josman has not responded to requests for comment, and the NYPD stated it has no related complaints on file.
