Tri-State Area Hit by Unexpected Snow and Heavy Rainfall
After a prolonged drought and fire hazards, the New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut areas experienced an early taste of winter with a significant weather system bringing both heavy snow and much-needed rain.
Impressive Snow Totals
Several locations reported substantial snowfall:
- High Point, NJ: 20 inches
- Callicoon Center, NY: 12 inches
- Monroe, NY: 10-12 inches
- Glen Spey, NY: 6 inches
- Port Jervis, NY: 7.4 inches
Significant Rainfall
The storm also delivered significant rainfall, offering relief from the drought conditions:
- Miller Place, Long Island: 3.13 inches
- Harrison, NJ: 3.08 inches
- Norwalk, CT: 2.70 inches
- Ridgewood, NJ: 2.37 inches
- Armonk, NY: 2.34 inches
Drought Conditions Persist
While the storm provided significant precipitation, drought conditions are expected to persist in the region. Upstate reservoirs received 1-3 inches of rainfall, but the area remains about seven inches below normal rainfall levels.
Power Outages in New Jersey
The heavy snowfall caused power outages in parts of New Jersey.
