New York Cities Shine: Top Rankings in 2024!

Resonance Consultancy, a real estate and tourism firm, has just released its ranking of America's best cities, and New York State is making a splash! Not only did New York City claim the top spot again, but several upstate cities also earned prestigious places.

NYC's Reign Continues

NYC's top ranking is attributed to a booming tourism recovery, with visitor numbers nearly doubling between 2021 and 2023. Airport upgrades, new hotels, and museum expansions further boosted its appeal. Resonance's analysis declared, "This city is back."

Upstate New York's Rising Stars

Several upstate cities also impressed:

Buffalo (No. 41)

Buffalo's architectural gems, including works by Frank Lloyd Wright and Louis Sullivan, along with its surprisingly affordable housing market, contributed to its high ranking. The city's "reinvention" is highlighted as a key factor in its success.

Rochester (No. 48)

Rochester's affordable housing, top universities, and legacy of innovation from companies like Kodak and Xerox helped it secure a spot on the list. The city's hosting of the 2023 PGA Championship and the Strong National Museum of Play also played a role.

Albany (No. 59)

Albany's strategic location, significant population growth, walkability, and thriving culinary scene make it attractive to newcomers. Its robust education system, including the University at Albany, also contributes to its appeal.

Syracuse (No. 76)

Syracuse, an economic hub of central New York, benefits from affordable rent, numerous parks, and a vibrant cultural scene, including jazz festivals. The city's redevelopment efforts, including the demolition of the I-81 viaduct, are also praised.

Poughkeepsie (No. 86)

Poughkeepsie's proximity to NYC, combined with its peaceful downtown, historic architecture, and ongoing redevelopment projects along Cannon Street, made it a notable addition to the list. The city's colleges, Marist and Vassar, also contribute to its vibrant atmosphere.

Resonance's Methodology

Resonance's rankings considered various factors: airport connectivity, social media engagement, and a survey of over 2,000 U.S. adults. The analysis was divided into three categories: livability, lovability, and prosperity.
