The report underscores the critical need for immediate action.  The combination of **climate change and a pre-existing housing shortage** could lead to a deficit of 1.2 million homes.  This means not only the loss of existing housing but also the inability to build new homes in areas increasingly susceptible to flooding.  **Building more housing simply to replace what’s lost to flooding will be a monumental task.**

According to Moses Gates, vice president for housing and neighborhood planning at the Regional Plan Association, local municipalities will face an unprecedented challenge.  They will have to build significantly more housing just to counteract the losses from flooding. # Brooklyn Horror: Four Young Girls Stabbed in Brutal Attack

A horrifying incident unfolded in Brooklyn, New York, where a 49-year-old man, **Long Chen**, attacked four young girls (aged 16, 13, 11, and 8) with a meat cleaver inside their home.  The attack occurred Sunday morning, and the swift actions of an **11-year-old girl**, who called 911 while hiding, and an uninjured sibling who alerted a neighbor, were critical in getting help to the scene.

## NYPD Response and Arrest

NYPD officers arrived to the scene immediately upon receiving the 911 call and were confronted with a man holding a blood-covered meat cleaver. After repeatedly ordering him to drop the weapon, Chen lunged at the officers, forcing them to open fire and apprehend him.  Two knives, including the large meat cleaver, were recovered from the scene.

## Victims and Suspect

Thankfully, **all four girls are expected to survive** their injuries, despite suffering serious slash and stab wounds.  Chen, believed to be a relative of the victims, is in critical condition. Family members reported that he had a history of mental illness, although there were apparently no prior domestic violence incidents reported at the home.

## Investigation Underway

The motive behind the attack is still under investigation, but the rapid response of the NYPD and the bravery of the children involved undoubtedly saved lives.  The quick thinking of the 11-year-old and her brother highlight the importance of emergency preparedness and community support.
