# NYC 2025 Mayoral Primary: Early Results & What to Expect

The 2025 New York City mayoral primary election is underway! While initial results are in, showing **zero votes reported** for all candidates across all boroughs at this early stage, we can still break down what to expect in the coming days.

## Democratic Primary

The Democratic primary features several notable candidates: **Andrew M. Cuomo**, **Zohran Mamdani**, **Brad Lander**, and **Scott M. Stringer**. Currently, all candidates show **0% vote share** in the first round of votes. Ranked-choice voting will likely be necessary and the final tallies are expected next Tuesday.

More than 90 percent of the city’s votes in the 2024 presidential election were counted by midnight on Election Day. Only the first round of ranked-choice votes are expected tonight.

# NYC Mayoral Primary: A Deep Dive into Candidate Positions

New York City's Democratic mayoral primary is heating up, with several key candidates vying for the nomination.  This election is shaping up to be a crucial one, with significant policy differences among the contenders.

## Key Candidates and Their Platforms

The race features prominent figures like former Governor Andrew Cuomo, State Assemblymember Zohran Mamdani, Comptroller Brad Lander, and City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams.  Each candidate brings a unique perspective and set of priorities to the table.

### **Trump and Federal Policies**

Many candidates have voiced strong opposition to President Trump's policies.  Cuomo has leveraged anti-Trump sentiment throughout his campaign, highlighting his confrontations with the former president during the COVID-19 pandemic.  Mamdani has condemned Trump's actions as "unconstitutional", while Lander was even arrested for actions protesting immigration policies.  Adams has also been a vocal critic, pointing to her successful legal challenges against the Mayor's attempts to allow ICE access to Rikers Island.

Cuomo proposes adding 5,000 NYPD officers, while Lander and Stringer advocate for improved recruitment and retention strategies within the NYPD to address staffing shortages.  Adams plans to hire additional NYPD workers and increase subway patrols. # NYC Scorches Under Record-Breaking Heatwave

New York City is experiencing a dangerous heatwave, with temperatures soaring to the mid-to-upper 90s and feeling like triple digits due to humidity. Central Park tied a record high temperature set back in 1888, reaching 96 degrees on June 23rd.

## Excessive Heat Warnings and Advisories

An **excessive heat warning** is in effect for much of the area, with heat index values reaching 100 to 110 degrees. A **heat advisory** is also in place for Long Island and parts of the Jersey coastline.

## Power Outages and Energy Conservation

Due to the extreme heat, **Con Edison** has requested energy conservation in parts of Brooklyn and Staten Island, temporarily reducing power by 8% to protect infrastructure. Over 100,000 Staten Island customers are impacted.

## Cooling Centers and Safety Precautions

Numerous **cooling centers** are open across NYC, including libraries, museums, and senior centers. ## Governor Declares Disaster Emergency

New York Governor Kathy Hochul declared a **disaster emergency** for 32 counties, citing the potential for the heatwave to exacerbate damage from recent storms.

NYC was under an excessive heat warning​ Monday, while Long Island and the Jersey coastline were under a heat advisory.

# NYC Democratic Mayoral Primary: A Close Race

The New York City Democratic mayoral primary is heating up! On June 24th, New Yorkers went to the polls to choose their next mayor from a crowded field of candidates. While early results are in, the race is far from over. This is because of the city's ranked-choice voting system.
