Where to Watch the Ball Drop

Times Square, located between the Port Authority Bus Terminal and Rockefeller Center, is the heart of the action. The iconic ball descends from atop One Times Square (formerly the Times Tower). Optimal viewing spots include Broadway (43rd to 50th Streets) and Seventh Avenue (as far north as 59th Street).

Spectator checkpoints will be in place at 49th, 52nd, and 56th Streets on Sixth and Eighth Avenues. Plan your arrival using public transport; the MTA will have extra service on several lines.

Who's Performing?

This year's star-studded lineup includes Carrie Underwood, the Jonas Brothers, Mark Ambor, Rita Ora, TLC, and more! Mickey Guyton will perform John Lennon's "Imagine" before the ball drop. CBS will also broadcast "New Year's Eve Live: Nashville's Big Bash" featuring additional performers.

How to Watch From Home

Prefer to avoid the crowds? The Times Square Alliance will provide a live webcast from 6 p.m. to 12:15 a.m. CBS News New York will also offer live coverage starting at 10:30 p.m.

Ball Drop Countdown

The ball drops at midnight E.T.! The 60-second countdown begins at 11:59 p.m., followed by a spectacular confetti shower. Spectator entrances open at 3 p.m., with the ball lit and lifted into place at 6 p.m.

Avoiding Traffic

Expect significant traffic congestion in Manhattan. Public transportation is highly recommended. Street closures will be in effect around Times Square from 4 a.m.
