NYC's First Snow? Weekend Winter Storm Could Bring a Surprise!
Is NYC about to see its first measurable snowfall of the season? A weather system moving in from Canada could bring a wintry mix this weekend, with the best chance for accumulation from Friday night into Saturday morning.
Timing and Impacts
FOX 5 NY meteorologists predict the highest chances of snowfall will be late Friday into early Saturday. While northern parts of the I-95 corridor could see 1-3 inches, NYC's snowfall is less certain. However, don't count out the Big Apple completely!
The amount of snow depends on three factors according to FOX Weather: timing, moisture levels, and cold air presence. After the potential snow, temperatures will plummet to the teens and single digits.
Seasonal Snow Predictions
FOX 5 NY's Nick Gregory predicts around 20 inches of snow for NYC this winter, below the typical 28-inch average. The lower Hudson Valley might see 20-25 inches. Much of the winter may bring a mix of rain and snow along the coast, with heavier snow further north.
Winter Officially Begins
Winter officially starts on December 21st, the winter solstice. NYC public school winter break runs from December 23rd to January 1st.
