# Homeless Man Arrested for Alleged Plot to Bomb NYSE

A homeless Florida man, **Harun Abdul-Malik Yener**, was arrested and charged with plotting to bomb the New York Stock Exchange.  According to a criminal complaint, Yener aimed to force a "reboot" or "reset" of the U.S. government.

The FBI's investigation began in February after a tip revealed bomb-making schematics stored in Yener's storage unit.  Agents found drawings of explosives and other IED components.  Yener claimed he was creating "rockets" and had been recruited by ISIS but ultimately chose not to join.

He told agents he was awaiting the opportune moment to act within the U.S.  Undercover agents later engaged Yener, eventually persuading him to target the NYSE.  He purchased materials at a Walmart to construct an IED.

Yener allegedly stated that the stock exchange would be an ideal target due to the substantial public impact it would have, hoping to inspire support for his actions. He planned to bomb the NYSE the week before Thanksgiving and send a statement to a news station detailing his motives.

On November 12, he recorded audio messages intended for NBC News. He envisioned the bombing as the start of a "new era, a new revolution," urging others to "follow suit." Yener was charged with attempted use of an explosive to damage a building used in interstate commerce.

# NYC Rent Prices are Dropping!

5. **Hamilton Heights:** A 1.8% drop compared to last year.

This downturn is likely due to high prices dampening demand, particularly in Brooklyn and Manhattan.  These boroughs have been the most saturated rental markets in recent years.

## Where Rents are STILL Rising:

In contrast, Queens has seen the biggest rent increases, with neighborhoods like Forest Hills, Jamaica, Astoria, Long Island City, and Woodside being particularly in-demand.

Other areas with the fastest rent growth include the West Village, Forest Hills, Soho, Flatiron, and Dumbo.

## Best Time to Find a Deal?

StreetEasy suggests that colder months typically see less competition among renters, potentially making it a great time to score a deal, especially in those five neighborhoods with falling rents.

# NYC's New Police Commissioner: Who is Jessica Tisch?

## Tisch's Background

Tisch has 17 years of experience in city government, including 12 years in civilian roles with the NYPD.  Before leading the Sanitation Department (DSNY), she headed the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications.  At NYPD, she worked in counterterrorism and managed the implementation of body-worn cameras and CompStat modernization.  Adams described her as a **visionary** who will bring the department into the next century.

## Sanitation Success

Her time at DSNY has been considered successful, implementing new rules around **trash containerization** to improve street cleanliness and reduce rat sightings.  She replaced Edward Grayson, who had served for over 20 years.

## Replacing Caban and Donlon

Tisch replaces Edward Caban, who resigned in September following a federal investigation.  Interim commissioner Thomas Donlon also faced scrutiny from federal authorities.

In her remarks, Tisch emphasized her commitment to public safety, aiming to improve quality of life and address public safety concerns. She stated the mission is to keep New Yorkers safe and make them *feel* safe, restoring dignity and order to every neighborhood.

It's noteworthy that Tisch comes from a prominent NYC family; her father, James Tisch, is the CEO of the Loews Corporation.

FOX 5 NY's Nick Gregory predicts around 20 inches of snow for NYC this winter—below the typical 28-inch average. The lower Hudson Valley might see slightly more. Historically, the first measurable snowfall in NYC occurs around December 13th.

# NYC-Toronto High-Speed Rail: A Bold New Plan?

**Senator Jeremy Cooney**, chair of New York State's Transportation Committee, is pushing for a high-speed rail line connecting **New York City** and **Toronto**.  He argues this is a financially viable and environmentally sound project, especially considering Toronto's growing economic importance.

Currently, the train journey between NYC and Toronto takes 12 hours, while a flight takes under two hours.  A high-speed rail line would significantly reduce travel time.

Interestingly, while high-speed rail components are being manufactured in Upstate New York for projects like the Brightline West line connecting Las Vegas and Southern California, trains in Upstate NY are currently capped at 90 mph due to federal regulations. Cooney advocates for implementing this technology within New York state.  He also highlights the potential for investment from the incoming Trump administration given Trump's New York connections.

The proposal hinges on both state funding and private investment to make this ambitious project a reality. 

The chair of New York State's Transportation Committee spoke to Newsweek about how he believes New York would benefit from international high speed rail.
