The flight, Turkish Airlines 8JK, had departed from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on Tuesday evening and was headed to Istanbul. The pilot, İlçehin Pehlivan, 59, reportedly fainted during the flight.
According to a statement from Turkish Airlines, medical intervention was unsuccessful and the co-pilot decided to land the plane. Sadly, the pilot passed away before the plane landed.

Pehlivan had been with Turkish Airlines since 2007.
