Pilot Dies During Flight to Turkey, Emergency Landing in NYC
On Wednesday morning, a Turkish Airlines pilot died mid-flight, forcing the co-pilot to make an emergency landing at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City.
The flight, Turkish Airlines 8JK, had departed from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on Tuesday evening and was headed to Istanbul. The pilot, İlçehin Pehlivan, 59, reportedly fainted during the flight.
According to a statement from Turkish Airlines, medical intervention was unsuccessful and the co-pilot decided to land the plane. Sadly, the pilot passed away before the plane landed.
The Airbus A350 landed safely at JFK Airport shortly before 6 a.m. ET.
Pehlivan had been with Turkish Airlines since 2007.
