Teen Arrested After NYC Subway Joyride Ends in Crash

New York City police arrested a 17-year-old girl for taking an empty subway train on a joyride and crashing it in Briarwood subway station in Queens. The incident occurred shortly after midnight on September 12th.

The teen, along with a companion still at large, is accused of entering and operating the train, causing a "collision." While no injuries were reported, the teen faces charges of criminal mischief and reckless endangerment.

How did they gain access to the train?

The NYPD hasn't provided details about how the pair managed to get onto the train. They haven't revealed how far the duo traveled before the crash either.

Surveillance images released by police show one suspect dressed in pink, including a shower cap, and the other in blue.

Similar incidents in NYC

This isn't the first time a subway joyriding incident has been reported in New York City. In January, a similar incident occurred at Forest Hills-71st Avenue station, also in Queens. No injuries or damage were reported in that incident either.

Officials speculate that the joyriders in the January incident used a stolen key. However, they reassured the public that the train could not have left its yard and reached active tracks.

The NYPD and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) are investigating the recent incident.
