White Christmas in NYC? Light Snow on Christmas Eve!
Light snow graced New York City and its surrounding areas on Christmas Eve morning, bringing a touch of winter magic. While the snowfall was light and short-lived, lasting only two to three hours in most locations, it was enough to create some slick spots on the roads. By late morning, the snow had moved off the coast.
Snow Accumulation and Timing
Most areas received a coating to an inch of snow. However, higher elevations in Sullivan, Ulster, and parts of Orange counties saw 1 to 3 inches. The snow showers ended in northern and western areas between 8 and 9 a.m., clearing out of the city by around 10 a.m.
Will it be a White Christmas?
By lunchtime, the skies cleared, with sunshine returning for the afternoon. Temperatures rose above freezing, reaching the mid-to-upper 30s. Christmas Day and the first night of Hanukkah are expected to be calm, with mostly sunny skies and highs in the 30s. The next chance of precipitation isn't until the end of the weekend, and it's expected to be rain.
