NYC Election 2024: Record Early Voting - Over 1 Million New Yorkers Cast Ballots

New York City broke a record with over 1 million residents casting early ballots in the 2024 election. The nine days of early voting, starting on October 26th, saw a higher turnout than any previous election. The City Board of Elections celebrated this record-breaking turnout with a celebratory post on X, declaring “Way to Go New York City!”.

Brooklyn led the city in early voting with over 346,000 ballots cast. The overall turnout for the 2021 mayoral election, in comparison, was only 1.1 million, or roughly 21% of registered voters. This makes the 2024 early voting turnout even more impressive.

The city expects hundreds of thousands more to vote on Election Day, which is November 5th, making this election one of the highest-turnout elections in recent history.

The most prominent race on the ballot is the presidential race, where voters can choose between Vice President Kamala Harris, former President Donald Trump, and third-party candidates. Though the race is expected to be won by Harris, there are other important races, including congressional races, that could have a significant impact on the city.

The ballot also includes six referendum questions, including five proposed by Mayor Adams to amend the City Charter.
