NYC's New Police Commissioner: Jessica Tisch Takes the Helm!

Jessica Tisch, currently the commissioner of the New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY), has been appointed as the new NYPD commissioner by Mayor Eric Adams. This makes her only the second woman to hold this position in the NYPD's 179-year history.

Tisch's Background and Experience

Tisch is a 17-year veteran of city government and has a strong track record. Before leading the DSNY, she served as the citywide chief information officer and previously worked at the NYPD as deputy commissioner of information technology, overseeing 911 operations. She holds degrees from Harvard College, Harvard Law School, and Harvard Business School.

Mayor Adams praised Tisch's leadership, particularly her work on the DSNY's “Trash Revolution” initiative, which has reportedly helped reduce trash by 70%. He expressed confidence in her ability to lead the NYPD and improve public safety.
