NYC Mayor Adams' Shocking Re-election Bid: An Independent Run
New York City Mayor Eric Adams has made a surprising announcement: he's skipping the Democratic primary and running for re-election as an independent candidate. This unexpected move comes after dismissed federal bribery charges that he claims “handcuffed” his campaign.

He believes that an independent campaign will allow him to be “uninhibited” and effectively communicate his vision for the city.
Facing a Tough Challenge
His re-election bid faces a significant hurdle: Andrew Cuomo, the former New York Governor, is also running for Mayor. A recent Quinnipiac University poll revealed that Cuomo enjoys considerably higher support (31%) among New York City Democrats compared to Adams (11%). Adams’ approval rating also sits at a low 20%.

He intends to submit the necessary 3,750 signatures by May 27th to secure his place on the November ballot.
The Dismissed Charges
The dismissed federal charges against Adams, which included allegations of accepting luxury travel and illegal campaign contributions, have significantly impacted his campaign. He feels these charges have hindered his ability to effectively campaign.
