After an incredible 50-year career, legendary news anchor Chuck Scarborough is signing off from his daily duties at NBC 4 New York. His last broadcast will be on December 12th at 6 PM.

Scarborough, known for his accuracy, objectivity, and fairness, expressed deep gratitude to viewers who welcomed him into their homes for over five decades. He'll remain a part of the NBC family, contributing to special projects and programming.

A Legacy of Excellence

Scarborough began his tenure at WNBC on March 25, 1974, anchoring the 6 PM and 11 PM news. In 2016, he stepped away from the 11 PM anchor chair but continued with the 6 PM newscast alongside Natalie Pasquarella, Bruce Beck, and Janice Huff.

His career highlights include:

  • Extensive reporting from around the globe, including Europe, Russia, and the Middle East.
  • Numerous awards, including 36 local Emmys and the prestigious Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Award for the station's COVID-19 coverage.
  • A Golden Anniversary celebration earlier this year, featuring the Empire State Building being lit in his honor.

What's Next?

While stepping away from daily anchoring, Scarborough will continue contributing to NBC 4 New York. His successor for the 6 PM newscast will be announced soon.

Eric Lerner, President and General Manager of NBC 4 New York, lauded Scarborough as the “gold standard” in American broadcast journalism. Amy Morris, Senior Vice President of News, emphasized his role as a rock of 30 Rock and the station's commitment to building on his legacy.

Beyond the Anchor Desk

Scarborough's achievements extend beyond broadcasting. He's a U.S. Air Force veteran, a published author, a proficient aviator, and a supporter of various non-profit organizations. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree Summa Cum Laude and an honorary doctorate. He is married with two children and two grandchildren.
